Do It Yourself

Do It Yourself Holidays...

Check out the low cost airlines and book your own accommodation.
More and more people have become confident enough to try this, and you can save hundreds of pounds off the brochure prices.  (My good lady reckons she saves a really hefty percentage against brochure prices, particularly on winter breaks).

For flights try XL.com or flights and accommodation at ThomsonFly - we’ve used resorthoppa a number of times for transfers although it’s probably cheaper just to grab a taxi at the airport if you’re just a short distance away.
It’s not just the chance of saving some cash there’s other benefits from DIY travel. For example you’re not limited to travelling from Friday to Friday or having to book multiples of 7 nights. You can go any day there’s a flight available for any number of nights.

Check if you can make any savings by booking online.
Quite a number of airlines and tour operators offer a discount if you book online.  It’s worth having a look if you haven’t tried already. (A tip from Angus: Try printing off your online quote and take it along to the travel agents office and try a bit of haggling).

Book off-peak and mid-week whenever possible.
One of the advantages of DIY holidays is that you can choose which day to fly and how many days you want to stay. You’ll find that hotels and flights are much cheaper off-peak - ideally away from bank holidays and school holidays. You can often save quite a bit by travelling mid-week - and it tends to be a lot quieter at the airports.

Don’t forget about the special offer between Tesco ClubCard and Cosmos
